Julian Kesby, Courtney Dowling and Haydn McIlwain have won second place in the competition to design a new Science Centre and Observatory in Port Macquarie. The competition was run by the Port Macquarie Astronomical Association. The presentations were made by Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor Peter Besseling at a ceremony on Sunday 9th February 2014 at the Observatory on Rotary Park at Town Beach. Comboyne Public School won the competition. The Kempsey High design also won the People's Choice Award which was judged by visitors to the display of design entries set up in the Port Macquarie Library during January.
